A native of Chandigarh, Padma Jaiswal’s journey from a gifted student to one of India’s most cherished IAS officers is nothing short of inspiring. With a dream to serve the nation and a natural flair for connecting with people, Ms. Jaiswal embarked on a path of academic excellence and relentless perseverance to join the prestigious Indian Administrative Service.

The Foundation of Excellence

Ms. Jaiswal’s academic journey is a testament to her commitment to learning and growth. After completing her undergraduate studies in commerce and management, she pursued a Master’s in Business Administration from Panjab University. These accomplishments equipped her with a multifaceted understanding of administration, planning, and execution—skills that would later become instrumental in her civil service career.

Reflecting on her journey to the IAS, Ms. Jaiswal says, “Becoming an IAS officer is one of the most challenging yet rewarding paths. The process tests every ounce of your patience, belief, and perseverance, but it prepares you for even greater challenges that lie ahead.”

Her determination was tested as she navigated the highly competitive three-stage public services examination. Each year, millions of aspirants compete for a handful of positions, and the grueling process demands unwavering focus and resilience. Yet, Ms. Jaiswal not only succeeded but excelled, earning her place in the AGMUT cadre of the 2003 batch.

A Career of Impact

Throughout her career, Ms. Jaiswal has held diverse administrative roles that highlight her expertise and commitment to public welfare. From managing revenue collection to presiding over revenue courts and spearheading development initiatives, she has consistently demonstrated the ability to balance empathy with efficiency.

Her tenure has been marked by a focus on law and order, equitable resource allocation, and innovative governance. Her nuanced understanding of societal needs and her decisive actions have earned her respect and admiration from peers and citizens alike.

“As a civil servant, every day brings a new opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference,” says Ms. Jaiswal. “Working with the government and citizens inspires me to think bigger and strive harder to build a better India. That’s the true reward of this profession.”

A Leader and an Inspiration

Currently serving as Secretary to Government for the State & Union Territories, Ms. Jaiswal plays a pivotal role in implementing government policies, overseeing special projects, and fostering social development. Her ability to align national priorities with local needs underscores her effectiveness as a transformative leader.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Jaiswal is a woman of varied interests. A passionate marathon runner and yoga practitioner, she believes in maintaining a balanced lifestyle. An avid reader, she enjoys exploring books on social and psychological themes. Her love for pottery and gardening reflects her grounding and creativity, hobbies she cultivated amidst the demands of her role.
